Are you passionate about the quality of education and care children receive? Do you aspire to have a positive impact on the quality of provision? The part-time Foundation Degree in Early Years is a new course designed to allow you to work while studying. It enables you to develop your professional knowledge, skills and attributes to enhance your career options in the early years sector. The Foundation Degree in Early Years Part-Time course has two pathway options: FdA Early Years (0-8yrs) pathway option is for students joining who have already met the requirements for EYE (Level 3 full and relevant) and wish to extend their knowledge and professional practice. FdA Early Years (0-8yrs) (Professional Practice) pathway option meets the requirements for Early Years Educator (EYE) (including 350 hours of practice in an Ofsted registered setting). This enables students to meet the “full and relevant” requirement for practice in an early years setting. DELIVERY INFORMATION Classroom lectures and workshops, discussion groups and independent research. 7 hours per week for 22 weeks in college plus 7 hours minimum of practice based work or placement per week. 9 hours per week guided independent study. STAFF EXPERIENCE The team are highly qualified with full Honours Degrees or Masters in Education. Other qualifications include QTLS, PGCE, a qualified head teacher (NPQH) . All staff are experienced practitioners in the childcare industry in both preschool and school environments. They are therefore able to offer clear insights into day to day practice which supports the theory, both of which are necessary to study at this level. Specialist areas of additional qualifications: English, playwork, early years, school Based Practice.

Both pathways will study the following Level 4 and Level 5 modules over three years. Year 1:

Assessment method
You will complete a range of course work, including case studies, presentations, essay, reflective practice tasks, portfolios and work-based learning. There are no formal examinations. The team are highly qualified with full Honours Degrees or Masters in Education. Other qualifications include QTLS , PGCE, a qualified head teacher (NPQH). All staff are experienced practitioners in the childcare industry in both pre-school and school environments. They are therefore able to offer clear insights into day to day practice which supports the theory, both of which are necessary to study at this level. Specialist areas of additional qualifications: English, play-work, early years, school Based Practice. The FDEY will qualify you for a range of careers in the early years sector, including day nurseries, family support work, children’s centres and enable you to progress towards nursery management. With further qualifications you can enter Primary Teacher Training. You can progress from the FDEY to a BA (Hons) Top-Up degree in Integrated Working with Children and Families (Level 6) at the University of Worcester, or a similar degree at a university. After gaining Level 6, you can then apply for teacher training on a one-year PGCE course. An alternative university course is the Early Years Teacher Status: Level 6. NB: PGCE and EYTS courses require GCSE English, maths and Science at C grade (grade 4).

UCAS Tariff - 32 points
• 4 GCSEs at Grade C (Grade 4) or above. • Evidence of level 2 Literacy (for example Key Skills or Functional Skills at level 2 or GCSE English Language at C/4 or above). If students do not have evidence of Literacy at level 2, it will be necessary to complete a nonstandard entry essay to demonstrate competence in written English. • Current police clearance to work with young children (DBS) - relevant forms will be sent by admissions on receipt of a firm acceptance of an offer of a place on the course - and a testimony / reference that supports the student’s commitment and suitability for the course. • The College has a commitment to widening participation in Higher Education, and will therefore give careful consideration to prior experiential learning, nontraditional qualifications and qualifications obtained outside of the United Kingdom

Heart of Worcestershire College is offering HE Boost Awards of up to £1500 to all first year full time HE students and £750 for part time . The funding will paid as 3 equal instalments at the end of October, January and May. If you are applying for your first year of your first Higher Education course and have “Firmly” accepted an offer of a place on a HE programme at Heart of Worcestershire College as your first choice (not insurance) you may be eligible. To be eligible you must meet the national criteria: • Normally resident in England • Have a household income of less than £25,000 (as assessed through Student Finance England) • Self funding, not sponsored by an employer, the NHS nor the Training and Development Agency for Schools. Please note that due to the limited nature of these funds meeting the criteria does not equate to an entitlement to the Boost award. Each application will be considered by the panel of senior staff based on the information provided.
