This elite executive Master’s programme is designed to equip sports professionals and leaders with the skills to develop a successful vision and deliver for the long-term success of sports organisations via the prominent role of Sporting Director. The MSc Sports Directorship will qualify you for one of the most important roles today in modern global sport, that of Sporting Director, and critically, will provide you with the skills, knowledge and experience to equip you to sit in a strategic leadership role in a sporting organisation. This two-year part-time course teaches a unique curriculum, tailored to meet the real demands of leading sports organisations. Covering sports leadership, personal development, masterminding innovation and change, sport governance and best practice – alongside a diverse range of hands-on extra-curricular activities – the course provides unrivalled preparation for the role of the sporting director. Modules
Modules include: Leading Innovation and Change in the Global Sports Industry; Personal Leadership in a Global Sporting Environment; Leading High Performance Sports Organisations in the Global Environment; Financial, legal and media issues for the Sporting Director; and the Applied Professional Project.
Assessment method
The MSc Sports Directorship is delivered in a format which allows students to combine study and work in a way that best suits their working life. Students will learn in blocks of face to face study, collaborating with peers to develop knowledge and share experiences. All teaching, learning and assessment strategies will conform to a task-driven pedagogical approach. Using this approach, the focus shifts from ‘the outcomes of instruction’ towards the ‘processes of learning’ i.e. what learners need to do in order to learn. As such there will be a clear and demonstrable integration between theory and practice by a variety of means. Participants will be expected to utilise their current and previous experiences. The programme combines expert content delivery from the teaching team and guest speakers with specialist expertise drawn from the national and international sporting business community in a workshop environment, providing new and best practice including case studies. Sessions will be interactive and formative feedback will be an aspect of the learning approach embedded within this learning and teaching approach. Confidentiality will be part of the teaching and learning agenda to encourage the sharing of best practice in order to maximise the learning environment. A range of assessment types are used across the programme, as appropriate to each module. Assessment is predominantly continuous, employing items that might include written assignments, reports, case study analyses, presentations, portfolios, reflective writing as well as practically orientated items. Applied assessment tasks are used as far as possible to enable students to link theory with practice, thereby assessing knowledge and understanding alongside subject-specific skills and key skills. Feedback and evaluation will be undertaken and used to inform on-going programme development, and the student experience.
Qualified teacher status (QTS)
To work as a teacher at a state school in England or Wales, you will need to achieve qualified teacher status (QTS). This is offered on this course for the following level:

How to apply
International applicants
We do not currently hold an international licence. This means that, at this moment, we are unable to accept international applications who require a student visa to study in the UK. If you already hold a visa that allows full time masters study in the UK and would like to submit an application, please upload relevant copies of any previous or current UK visas and a colour copy of a valid passport as part of your online application. As the UK has now left the EU, all applicants from outside the British Isles who do not hold a current British passport would also require a visa to study in the UK. Applicants who hold pre-settled or settled status are eligible to study with UCFB on campus. Entry requirements
It takes an ambitious person to take part in the MSc Sports Directorship. We’re looking for self-starters who possess a combination of skills, experience and the desire to succeed. You may already be working in a sporting environment, for instance in a coaching, medical, finance or marketing role, and looking for the next crucial step in your sporting career. Alternatively, you may be in a business role, and seeking to make the move into sport to use your business skills in a new way. The course also offers ex-players and sports professionals to acquire the business skills needed to take the step into the position on a sporting director. Many of our delegates spent their youth playing, not studying, and the application process takes that into account. The course is designed to build on existing talents and experience, whilst developing new leading-edge skills that are in demand throughout the sporting community. Entry onto the course is therefore through a blend of life experience, career and reason for wanting to do the programme.
