Marketing plays a vital role in the strategic direction and success of many different types of organisations. Marketing at Keele allows you to discover the varied and exciting facets of contemporary marketing, providing you with the perfect blend of theory and practice to prepare you for a range of career opportunities. The curriculum provides the right balance of learning essential marketing knowledge and skills whilst drawing on additional subjects such as psychology and sociology to enhance your understanding of key marketing themes. You will be encouraged to enhance your communication, analytical, problem solving and creative skills and benefit from placement opportunities. From the start of the course, you will study core modules which will develop your marketing expertise. The major marketing principles and theories important to today’s marketeers are studied and you will develop skills in quantitative methods, develop your understanding of international business and the different psychological and social influences that can affect consumer behaviour. You will also gain an insight into the world of management, as companies need individuals who can think critically about management and organisations. Optional modules on the programme provide you with the opportunity to enhance your ‘all-round’ knowledge of the wider marketing and business principles. You will be introduced to themes including accounting and the global economy and also have the opportunity to explore the management of organisations, working with peers to find viable solutions to a business problem set by a multi-national corporation. From building your understanding of today’s consumer culture and how marketing research is conducted and utilised to inform strategic decision making, to exploring the key considerations of digital and marketing communications planning years two and three of the Marketing BSc feature core modules that will advance your marketing expertise. You will study how marketeers incorporate ethical and responsible practice into their marketing activities and explore the importance of the customer experience in different service marketing settings. You will examine business case studies to illustrate how marketing theory informs decisions made about digital marketing activities, undertake an independent piece of consumer research, investigate how changes in the global environment can impact marketing decisions and delve into the world of modern retailing.
