Gain expertise in economics, econometrics and financial systems, to prepare yourself for a role in corporate and investment banking, financial management or economic policy.
- Apply economic and financial theories and concepts to discuss, formulate and evaluate macroeconomic and microeconomic policies, such as those focusing on sustainability, both at national and international level.
- Develop the necessary analytical, quantitative, communication, and information technology skills and apply them to real-life situations by modelling economic relations, and by interpreting banking theories, economic policies and business behaviour.
- Gain a firm foundation of knowledge about the workings of the economy and apply it constructively in a range of settings.
Modules
Your main study themes are:
- Ethics Ever since the global financial crisis of 2008, the spotlight has – quite rightly – been on the behaviour and performance of the financial markets. We will also look at globalisation, and sustainability in international economic development.
- Integration The economic crisis revealed that economists and financiers had rarely understood each other’s work. This course helps to bring an end to the separation between economics and banking – recognising that they are, in fact, intertwined.
- Application This course doesn’t just teach you the theory of finance, banking and economics – it gets you to work. You will be taught to use the technology, do the modelling and simulations, make the presentations, and could even do an internship (subject to application and availability). All of which will help you to fit more easily into the workplace when you graduate.

The University also accepts the BTEC Level 3 National Extended Certificate/BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma and BTEC Level 3 National Diploma/BTEC Level 3 Diploma for entry onto degree programmes, provided that they are studied in combination with other qualifications that are equivalent to three A2 Levels.
