We offer a high quality teaching experience and excellent range of modules choices. At the heart of our teaching is the tutorial experience. You meet twice a week in a small group with a department tutor, for one hour, throughout your first year. We offer a wide range of modules taught in variety of engaging and stimulating ways. You will build on your A-level studies to become an independent researcher. In addition the department has a range of social events, field trips, reading groups and film club. The degree examines the most important thinkers and ideas in the discipline.
The degree builds upon your A-Level studies to develop your knowledge, understanding and expertise. You will study the most important thinkers and ideas in religious studies and ethics. In the first year you explore the contemporary significance of key ideas in religious studies and ethics. The second year offers a wide range of choice allowing you to explore major religious traditions such as Islam, Buddhism, Judaism, and Hinduism as well a fundamental issues in topics such as Bio-Ethics. In the third year you will undertake a major study in an area of your choice as well as explore the impact of suffering and evil on religious and ethical thinking. Modules are delivered by high quality teachers in a variety of engaging styles.

English language requirements
The standard entry requirement for this programme is IELTS 6.0 with no element lower than 5.5. However, you can begin your 3-year degree programme with IELTS 5.5. Our International Route allows you to take 4 credit-bearing modules in International English Studies (IES) as part of your first year studies. This means you study 4 modules in your chosen subject and 4 in International English. The IES Modules allow you to focus on personal language development and your use of English as an academic language. Then, at the end of your first year, you’ll have all the necessary language skills to transfer to full study of your main subject. If you have an IELTS score under 5.5 you can still begin a 3-year degree programme with us. In this case we provide a 5 or 10 week intensive Presessional Programme in English language and academic skills. For the 10 week Programme you’ll need IELTS 4.5, and IELTS 5.0 for the 5 week Programme.
