Course summary
Take an interdisciplinary cultural studies approach to understand the media in all their complexity as institutions, texts, and systems of representation in local, national and global contexts. Taught by experts, you’ll engage with current theoretical debates to explore and critique the media’s political, social and cultural power in everyday life and the public sphere. You’ll:
- develop a skills portfolio in critical analysis, creative thinking, research methods, academic writing and presentation
- choose from a wide variety of options, allowing you to set your own intellectual agenda
- gain methodological knowledge to research a wide range of media.
Modules
We regularly review our modules to incorporate student feedback, staff expertise, as well as the latest research and teaching methodology. We’re planning to run these modules in the academic year 2023/24. However, there may be changes to these modules in response to COVID-19, staff availability, student demand or updates to our curriculum. We’ll make sure to let our applicants know of material changes to modules at the earliest opportunity. Core modules Core modules are taken by all students on the course. Entry requirements
Degree requirements: You should normally have an upper second-class (2.1) undergraduate honours degree or above. Subject-specific requirements: Your qualification should be in media and communication studies or a relevant social sciences or humanities subject. You may also be considered for the course if you have other professional qualifications or experience of equivalent standing.
