Course summary

This course focuses on one of the most challenging issues that companies and organisations face in sustainable development, effecting change in individual behaviours, business practice and wider society. Students work on live briefs and real world projects and have invaluable access to organisations and case studies offered through the network of organisations associated with UWE's Institute for Sustainability, Health and Environment (ISHE).


Sustainable development: principles and practice; creating sustainable behaviour change; the sustainable organisation: vision into practice; communications campaigns: creative approaches and tools; work-based learning in sustainability and environmental management; Master's project; grassroots planning; healthy cities; journalism writing; leading change; leadership; managing change; managing the environment; natural resources law; sustainable procurement; sustainable technologies; sustainability in the built environment; transport policy and finance; waste management and contaminated land; water management: challenges for the 21st century; water policy and law.

Assessment method

This course is assessed via a combination of coursework and presentations. You'll take a project-based assessment that focuses on real-world challenges, which will help you build a valuable portfolio of work in pro-sustainability change.
