Course summary

The PGDip/MSc in Sustainable Aquaculture is designed to develop students' critical understanding of sustainability in aquaculture production. The programme is aimed at those seeking professional development while already working in, or aspiring to work in the global aquaculture sector

Modules

Further information on modules available for 2024 entry will be available in due course. Dissertation: Students on the MSc programme complete a 15,000-word dissertation at the end of their studies. The dissertation involves the study of a defined problem within the field of sustainable aquaculture. Students are required to collate and analyse data and to discuss their results in the light of existing literature. In some cases, projects might also involve designing experiments or gathering data.  If students choose not to complete the dissertation requirement for the MSc, there is an exit award available that allows suitably qualified candidates to receive a Postgraduate Diploma. By choosing the exit award, you will finish your degree at the end of the taught portion of the programme and receive a PGDip instead of an MSc.

Assessment method

Students will use a combination of video lectures, online presentations, handouts, tutorials, guided reading, online discussion, self-assessment and problem-solving tasks. All course resources will be available via the University's online learning platform. Students on the MSc course will undertake a dissertation in sustainable aquaculture. Projects with an employer or sponsor are welcomed (subject to availability).

Entry requirements

A 2.1 undergraduate Honours degree in a relevant biological science. Entry might also be possible following successful completion of the Undergraduate Certificate in Sustainable Aquaculture in conjunction with additional evidence of relevant professional experiential learning. If you studied your first degree outside the UK, see the University's international entry requirements and the English language requirements if your first language is not English. We will also consider applicants who do not have an undergraduate degree. In these circumstances we expect candidates to have at least five years of relevant professional learning. The Admissions team will holistically assess your application and determine the best route of entry for you. In some cases, this may be onto the PGCert in the first instance where students will have the opportunity to progress and graduate with a full Masters degree
