The MMus Music Performance (available full-time and part-time) gives you the opportunity to hone your musical expertise to the highest standard, while engaging with research and critical thinking within the field of popular music. Why choose this course This MMus in Music Performance is aimed at individuals who wish to continue their studies after having already completed a relevant degree programme. Nexus ICA also welcomes applications for this course from those with a significant industry/professional experience. The course combines practical and academic study. Individual tuition and extensive ensemble work will develop your musical skills to their full potential, while academic modules, including research methods and critical perspectives, will prepare you for creating and executing a final practice-based research project. Across the duration of the course, there will be many opportunities to collaborate both within Nexus ICA and as part of the broader community of musicians across Coventry and the West Midlands. You will also benefit from the input of a wide variety of guest lecturers, visiting speakers and our guest faculty. As a postgraduate student at Nexus ICA, you will combine self-directed study with support and guidance from our teaching staff, all of whom are active professionals in their field. You will have full access to Nexus ICA’s facilities, including fully-equipped practice rooms, library, Mac lab, and performance spaces, all of which can be booked at no extra cost. Career and Study Progression Studying at masters level will broaden your horizons as a musician and scholar. The reality of being a musician today is that you will have a multi-faceted career. The MMus Musi Performance course will enable you to explore a wide variety of these facets in greater depth, develop new skills and open up new avenues of investigation, both musical and academic. Completion of the MMus Music Performance will enhance your skills in your chosen fields. You will develop as a performer, musical director, educator, academic, and much more. Entry requirements
Academic A minimum of a 2.1 in a relevant undergraduate qualification, or comparable professional experience. Equivalent overseas qualifications will be considered. International students need to meet our English language requirement at IELTS 6.5 or above, and a minimum of 5.5 for each of the 4 individual components (Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening) Practical Prospective students will be required to undertake a practical audition to assess musical ability. For some applicants, there may be a written element to their application process to determine suitability for studying at postgraduate level.
