Course summary

This programme provides a focused route for recent graduates wishing to develop their understanding of the theory and practice of English language /TESOL teaching in order to start their career as English language professionals and gain the skills required to develop their professional practice.

Modules

Core: Principles of Communicative Language Teaching; Dissertation (ALLT/ELT); Research Skills; Developing Approaches to Language Teaching. Optional: Description of Language; Second Language Learning; Language in Society; Assessment of Language Proficiency; Discourse Analysis; English as a World Language; Intercultural Communication; Teaching Foreign Languages to Younger Learners; Autonomy and Individualisation in Language Learning; Writing and Written Language; E-learning and English Language Teaching; English as medium of instruction in global education; Language ideologies in a globalising world.

Assessment method

Written assignments, oral presentations and the dissertation.

Upper 2nd Class Honours degree in English, linguistics, modern languages or other relevant discipline.
