Hands-on learning The MSc International Business and Finance features plenty of scope for practical experience so that you build an impressive portfolio of transferable skills. You could find yourself contributing to specialist projects for employers and organisations in the region: recent examples include economic impact studies of the Buxton Festival and the Derby Low Carbon Initiative and working with the D2N2 Local Enterprise Partnership on their strategic economic plan. Company visits give you fresh insights. In the past, our students have benefited from behind-the-scenes tours of the Pride Park Stadium, Derby Arena and Crown Derby. You can take advantage of mentor opportunities with our international industry leaders, extend your contacts through networking at Institute of Directors workshops, applying for company taster days including Price Waterhouse Cooper, and attending events held by the University’s own Network of Entrepreneurs. Expert teaching Our lecturers are experienced in all aspects of international business and their research and experience will enrich your learning. They are supported by industry experts from our thriving network of professional and business leaders. We collaborate with prestigious names such as Lloyds Bank Corporate; the Bank of England Midlands Office; HSBC Nottingham; Eversheds; PwC; PKF Cooper Parry; Smiths of Derby; and Captivate Brands. Many of their senior staff contribute to the MSc International Business and Finance with thought-provoking guest lectures. You will also benefit from the support and advice of a personal tutor who is part of the programme team and will contribute to your academic and personal development and your career planning.

Modules

Modules include: international economics for business and finance; international banking and finance law; options; international business theory and strategy; strategic finance and investment behaviour; independent study.

Assessment method

Our wide-ranging coursework assessment methods are designed to enhance your transferable skills. They may include: essays, strategy documents and international business analysis reports; computer-based assignments; evaluation of Bloomberg information on international markets and organisations; portfolios of relevant work; presentations and videos. You may be working alone or as part of a team, and you could be marked on elements of reflective practice. Some modules may have a formal examination.

Entry requirements

You'll usually need: A second class or higher undergraduate degree in a relevant area including: business, economics, management, accounting or finance, or another degree with relevant business experience. A desire to improve your mathematical and statistical skills and knowledge. If English is not your first language, you will also need IELTS 6.5 with 5.5 in each skills area.
