Course summary

Aimed at aspiring future business leaders, this dynamic Global MBA covers a wide range of business tenets to help prepare you for the challenging, ever-changing and complex world of local, national, and international business. Through the application of theoretical models to real-world business scenarios, the course builds on principles of sustainable development and innovation. On completion, graduates will be equipped with the necessary skills to both diagnose and analyse modern business challenges and to develop innovative and value-adding strategies. Solent’s Business School has extensive business experience at senior level, as well as management consulting experience and research interests in applied business and management, which help to ensure the course retains a contemporary business focus. The Business School prides itself on the networks it has access to that allow various employers to engage with students in a variety of methods. This will be either through department events such as Winter Warmer, Spring Forward and Time to Shine, where students can receive career advice, hear from inspirational business professionals, and network with employers and alumni; or through opportunities to make presentations to industry professionals on a live client brief. Modules

Core modules

  • Academic Skills and Career Development
This module will allow you to build a strong foundation of academic, personal and professional development skills that will ensure success in the workplace. Throughout the module you'll develop a stronger reflective awareness of what your skills are, how they can be put into action to ensure your professional success, and where improvements can be made through a clear plan of action. You'll also develop a confident grasp of the study skills you need to suceed at master's level. This is a must-pass module.
  • Corporate Financial Management
During this module, you'll explore key topics in the area of corporate financial management, such as evaluation of risk, financing options for investments, evaluation of investments, and company valuation, at an advanced level. You'll also become familiar with the concepts of primary and secondary capital markets to better understand their impac on a corporation's operations.
  • Enterprise and Innovation
In this module, you'll learn about the concepts of entrepreneurship, intrapreneurship, business development, and the role of SMEs in economy - all with the aim of developing your confidence with being immersed in an ever-changing business environment and recognising opportunities, as well as equipping you with the skills and knowledge to start your own business. You'll gain theoretical knowledge of key areas in digital innovation and business transformation, as well as the ability to understand new innovations to offer opportunities within businesses.
  • Research Methods and Final Major Project
This module consists of two parts: Research Methods and Final Major Project. The Research Methods element will develop your skills of inquiry and management research required for your Final Major Project, resulting in a project proposal used as the basis for your Final Major Project. For your Final Major Project, you'll have the opportunity to apply your research and analytical skills to an area of your interest within the field of business/management, as defined in your project proposal.
  • Strategic Leadership and Change
Combining theory and practice, this module will help you develop and enhance your own strategic leadership qualities. You'll gain a clear understanding of contemporary issues of leadership and will be supported towards a career in business management enabling you to apply knowledge and understanding of business and management to complex, dynamic issues and situations that will arise in your working environment.
  • Strategic Operations Management
This module explores the role and purpose of strategic operations management within an organisation. You'll explore the major principles of operations management and critically analyse how these are applied in different organisations. You'll begin to develop an understanding of the challenges associated with the management of operations and will be equipped with the theoretical knowledge of key areas in strategic operations management, with the opportunity for practical application to examples from industry.

How to apply

International applicants

All international applicants need to be aware that the English language requirements to attend Solent University, and the English language requirements to obtain a visa from the Home Office, may be different. This means that if you meet the Solent University language requirement to gain a place on the course, you may still have to meet additional requirements to be granted with a visa by the Home Office. Entry requirements

• Honours degree at 2:2 in a relevant discipline. • It is essential that applicants demonstrate a clear passion and interest for business and/or enterprise. Work experience is considered desirable. Language Requirements Applicants who do not have English as their first language will be required to demonstrate an approved level of proficiency in the use of the English language. The agreed minimum requirements for this course are: • IELTS minimum 6.5 overall with a minimum of 6.0 in writing and 5.5 in speaking, listening and reading. • TOEFL IBT 92 with a minimum of 22 in writing and a minimum of 20 in reading, listening and speaking • Duolingo English Language Test - 115 overall with minimum of 100 in each component or equivalent. Qualifications are checked before enrolment, and international students must bring their original certificates or certified copies when coming to study at the University.
