Course summary

Develop your passion for training animals, enhance your skills with the latest technologies and top-up your existing qualification to a full BSc degree. You’ll study the newest advances in the field and use industry-leading facilities to develop your expertise, with access to over 70 domestic and non-domestic species on-site. You’ll also benefit from our excellent industry connections with animal trainers, scientists and behaviourists across the UK. Emerging science and technology will allow you to understand animal performance to a greater extent as you study. All of our training methods are underpinned by the strictest ethics and supported by the latest scientific evidence, prioritising the physical and psychological needs of animals to enhance wellbeing and performance. You’ll be presented with the key scientific principles at the forefront of animal training, performance and rehabilitation and you'll have the chance to undertake an independent research project in your area of interest. This will enable you to delve deeper into a topic you care about and contribute to research that’s making a difference to the lives of animals.

Modules

Our modules are developed regularly to reflect student and industry demands, ensuring you’re well prepared to enter skilled employment on graduation. The majority of courses are comprised of both compulsory and optional modules, the latter of which you'll be able to choose from to suit your interests and career goals. Most courses also include work placement learning, to help you gain essential experience for your future. Modules include: Investigative Skills for the Successful Undergraduate/Applied Research Project, Dissertation, Advanced Animal Training, Advanced Animal Performance Analysis. Modules are sometimes subject to change. Optional modules change each year - you can attend introductory sessions before deciding which ones to study.
