Course summary

Why Applied Artificial Intelligence (with placement)? On our Applied Artificial Intelligence (AI) degree, you’ll create ground-breaking intelligent software to solve complex real-world problems, as you discover how to make computers learn. Exploring topics including mathematics, programming, data analytics and robotics, you’ll develop expertise in a highly technical, dynamic and growing sector with the potential to revolutionise the way we live. You’ll gain a detailed understanding of data flows within organisations and systems and how data can be engineered to produce knowledge, learning from experienced professionals active in the AI research community. Working in our state-of-the-art AI computer labs, you’ll use the latest software such as Python, R, C#, C++, scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch, pandas, Unity, Visual Studio and Jupyter notebooks, on a course supported by the UK’s Institute of Coding. Placement opportunities enable you to work with practitioners in real-world settings, gaining skills, experience and contacts invaluable for your future career. Trips to industry conferences and exhibitions offer further networking opportunities along with the chance to demonstrate your skills (additional costs may apply, see course web page for details). We also host our own events such as the COMX end of year show, where you’ll be able to showcase your work to potential employers looking for the next generation of leaders in this exciting and fast-changing field. Why University of Gloucestershire? We’ve been using our expertise to support and inspire students since 1847. Join us and you will benefit from professional-standard facilities in the beautiful, historic surroundings of Cheltenham and Gloucester. Our vibrant and tight-knit community of over 10,000 students and staff paired with a wide variety of courses means you will have the best of both worlds – a diverse community of sports clubs, societies and activities while also benefiting from specialist lecturers who value you as an individual. Who Cares? We do. We care about our students and the planet. We listened to what our students value most, turning our prospectus digital and providing opportunities for them to protect the planet and move on to study in an environment that works hard to support future generations. As a result, we’re proud that the University of Gloucestershire has been judged the UK’s most sustainable university. Our students never tire of finding inspiration here in the dynamic county of Gloucestershire, home to over 45 festivals every year, including 2000trees, Wychwood and the world-famous Cheltenham Literature festival. Many students gain valuable skills and experience working at these events alongside their studies. After the course Your story with us doesn’t end at graduation. Through our innovative Your Future Plan scheme, you will be supported to become the graduate that you want to be, making industry connections and taking part in placements and field trips that offer invaluable experience outside of the lecture theatre. We are proud of our record that 93% of University of Gloucestershire graduates are in work or further study six months after completing their course*. *UK Graduate Outcomes Survey 2020.
