Course summary

With a focus on the application of engineering and technology to biological problems, this programme has been designed to further develop your scientific and engineering knowledge to meet the demand for highly skilled scientists within the biotechnology industry. As a biotechnology-focused engineer, you'll help to improve the world around us by tackling global issues in bioprocessing, healthcare and medicine. For example, by developing processes to make sustainable products such as biofuels or foods from biological resources, the manufacturing of vaccines and antibiotics, or the creation of medical and environmental technology solutions. This may also include developing new medicines using DNA technology or improving methods of drug delivery in order to improve healthcare for the population. This programme includes a high proportion of practical work which provides valuable experience for your career. You'll be immersed in our research-intensive culture and will complete your own biotechnology-focused research project where you can work alongside our internationally respected research teams.

You will be assessed through a combination of exams, coursework, class presentations and a substantial project.
