The UK's National Cyber Security Strategy identifies software vulnerabilities as a key threat, and building security into software from the start as a national priority. However, most software developers are not security experts, which is the need from industry that needs filled. Abertay’s BSc (Hons) Cybersecurity is within its renowned School of Design and Informatics. It draws upon Abertay's teaching and research expertise in Ethical Hacking, secure software engineering and human-centred security to ensure that you are well prepared for the rapidly evolving commercial cybersecurity environment. You will learn how to design and build secure software systems that are resilient to cyberattack. The degree combines computer science, maths, software engineering and cybersecurity. You will gain experience working with desktop, server, mobile and embedded platforms, and learn low-level programming and computer architecture, right from the start of the programme. Modules
Year 1 core modules (subject to change over time) - CMP101 Computer Hardware Architecture & Operating Systems; CMP109 Computer Networking 1; CMP104 Programming with C++; CMP110 Introduction to Security; CMP102 Software Design; ABE101 Abertay 101 - Being successful to Abertay. Assessment method
You’ll learn through a blend of lectures, tutorials, practical work and reading. The majority of modules make use of online learning resources. Real world case studies of major attacks and data breaches are used provide the opportunity for critical analysis and evaluation in class. During practical exercises, you’ll be expected to evaluate your own work to make sure that products are functional and fit for purpose. Knowledge and skill are assessed through project work, reports, portfolios and practical assessments. Approximately 20% of the degree is assessed by examination.
Qualified teacher status (QTS)
To work as a teacher at a state school in England or Wales, you will need to achieve qualified teacher status (QTS). This is offered on this course for the following level:
