Course summary
The BSc (Hons) Sports Rehabilitation has been developed in response to increasing demand from graduates of the HND in Sports Therapy for a programme which will allow them to develop a broader understanding of the prevention and management of injury and disease in an exercise and physical activity context. Within Scotland this course is unique. It is the only programme offering an Honours degree in Sports Rehabilitation which is accredited by the UK regulator and professional body for Sports Rehabilitation. The overarching aim for the BSc (Hons) Sports Rehabilitation is to produce graduates who are skilled, resilient, autonomous, collaborative, critical and reflective problem solvers, who can make a positive contribution to the health and wellbeing of individuals and of society. Graduates will have the capacity to integrate critical thinking and professional behaviours in order to deliver person centred, evidence informed care. They will be committed to continuing professional development and to increasing the awareness and effectiveness of their profession. Graduates will be capable of using research and enterprise skills in leading responses to the changing needs of society. Graduates will demonstrate that they have met the requirements of a Graduate Sports Rehabilitator and be eligible to apply for registration with the British Association of Sports Rehabilitators and Trainers (BASRaT).
Modules
Year 3: Exercise testing and prescription; Understanding and appraising the evidence for practice; Musculoskeletal management in sports rehabilitation 1; Practice based learning in sports rehabilitation 1; Environment, society and sports rehabilitation; Population, health and lifestyle considerations in sports rehabilitation. Year 4: Musculoskeletal management in sports rehabilitation 2; Reasoning and decision making in sports rehabilitation; Practice based learning in sports rehabilitation 2; Leadership and enterprise for practice; Applying skills of critical enquiry (project).
Assessment method
Assessment methods used include essays, individual and group projects, research protocols, problem solving exercises, seminar and poster presentations, literature reviews, critical appraisal activities, case-based assignments and portfolios. To maximise learning from returned assignments students are given written feedback on their work based on the undergraduate attributes of performance.
