Course summary

With significant investment from private and public sector organisations in engineering projects there is a need for engineers who can competently manage complex engineering projects. This course aims to develop and equip individuals from a wide variety of backgrounds with the necessary skills to be a competent engineering project manager. Project management is about implementing methodologies, knowledge, skills and techniques to successfully accomplish projects in an effective manner. This course develops these competencies, required by project managers in the modern engineering environment. Whether you are bringing a new product to market or managing an organisational change, this course provides you with the skills and knowledge to plan, implement, control and deliver your projects at strategic and operational levels. Modules

Part 1: purchasing and inventory management; research methods; quality management; logistics and supply chain management; leadership, product development and innovation; management of engineering projects; management of financial and human resources. Part 2: major project.

Assessment method

Assessment used within this programme is usually formative or summative. Assessments are designed to develop students’ ability to practice a wide range of tools and techniques and to see the strategic implications of decisions and problems. These typically take the form of case studies, research and critical evaluation exercises and practical work based reports to resolve problems, develop a purchasing or quality strategy, for example. In some modules students are required to present their research/findings to their lecturer’s and peers followed by a question and answer session. Such assessment strategies are utilised by the course team to generate student driven work.


Entry requirements

An Honours degree 2.2 or above classification in an appropriate discipline. The nature of the programme is such that candidates from a wide variety of backgrounds will be considered. Equivalent qualifications Equivalent qualifications will be considered for entry onto the programme. For example, a candidate with a good HND, together with at least five years relevant experience would be considered. The candidate would be expected to provide evidence to support his/her application. Other skills considered Our offers are not solely based on academic results. We will take your skills, achievements and work experience into consideration. Evidence of personal professional and educational experience will be sought, to provide indicators of the ability of an individual to satisfy the requirements of the programme.
