Course summary
Taking an advanced nursing course is a real investment in your career. Our MSc Advanced Nursing has been carefully designed to enable you to advance your nursing practice and improve patient care. You'll explore dimensions of advanced nursing in national and international contexts, extending your knowledge in the delivery of excellent nursing care. A natural progression from your BSc, the MSc Advanced Nursing builds on your skills and specialist knowledge, giving you a deeper understanding and leading to wider career opportunities within health care. We have excellent links with local NHS Trusts and many of our graduates progress into advanced nursing positions. We're proud of our award-winning community of nurses at the University of Nottingham. One of our graduates was named post-registration 'Student of the Year' at the 2020 Student Nursing Times Awards, recognising their achievements in both academic work and service development.
Modules
You'll study core modules that enable you to critically evaluate evidence underpinning professional practice in health and social care. You'll learn about theoretical and practical concepts for advancing nursing across different contexts, as well as evaluating leadership and governance in healthcare. Those on the MSc course will complete a dissertation project, which will enhance your research skills. This could include a practice improvement project or an investigative piece of work on advancing nursing within your specialist area. The course also includes a number of optional modules, which allow you to tailor your learning towards your specific areas of interest. We offer a variety of optional module topics, including: chronic wound care management, theory and practice in palliative and end-of-life care, advanced clinical decision-making, contemporary cancer therapies and care. Assessment method
Assessments include assignments, critical analysis and reflection, presentations and a dissertation.
Entry requirements
Applicants for the full-time course must hold a first or second class honours degree (2:2 or above) in nursing or other relevant topic. Applicants for the part-time programme will usually hold a Bachelors degree, or qualifications and experience deemed to be equivalent. All applicants must be qualified nurses, usually with a minimum of two years experience in nursing practice. There is no specific quota for international students and each application is assessed on merit. International students will be required to have occupational health clearance, supply a declaration of good character and health form certified by their current employer and undertake governance training in order to undertake insight/observational visits. IELTS 6.5 (no less than 6.0 in any element).
