Course summary

The HND Creative Media Production is the progression course for the HNC Creative Media Production course. You will continue to build on existing skills you will have studied and learnt at Level 4. This means continuing to develop practical skills such as camera, editing, lighting and audio. On the HND course there is a stronger focus on preparing for the industry with students engaging with more projects that involve planning for the future, developing professional progression materials such as show reels and CVs and there is even a project in which you create a plan for your own Media based business. You will also continue to build on academic skills such as research and academic writing, but students at this level are expected to work more independently, which again is something reflective of the real industry. There are also opportunities to learn more in depth theoretical approaches to film and develop more specific skills such as writing for the media. Many students choose to follow up the HND course with a top up year at University, but you would have the necessary skills upon completion of the HND course to enter the media industry and find a suitable career. The media industry has become a hugely impactful and relevant part of our lives and the more time passes the more reliant we become on the media industry to keep us informed, entertaining and connected. Studying media is beneficial as it gives you a much deeper insight into how the industry operates, how media products are created and how to effectively reach an audience. Students will be able to keep on top of the ever changing media industry whilst on the course and will be able to track the progression of modern technology as well. As the media has spread and become a much more utilised tool there is a much wider range of job opportunities related to media now available. Many industries outside of the media industry still use relevant media skills such as social media and promotion in order to market their companies/services and this means studying this course will give you a range of transferrable skills that you can apply to a range of different industries, not just the media industry, meaning our students leave us with a fantastic skillset which will benefit them greatly when pursuing a career. Although work experience is not required to complete the course there will be a range of opportunities available throughout the year that your tutor will direct you to. Work experience is an autonomous process at HE and we expect our students to take initiative and engage with this opportunities where and when they can.
