Bath Spa University has opted into the TEF and received a Silver award.
This is the 4 year course which includes a Professional Placement Year. Environmental Science at Bath Spa University explores biological and geographical perspectives of the environment. Expect to get your hands dirty as we get you out of the classroom and into the environment as much as possible. Your tutors will help you understand issues such as climate change, importance of biodiversity, and pollution as you develop the skills to do something about them.
- Cover some of the planet’s most pressing problems - e.g. protection of the environment and natural systems, energy use and waste management.
- Develop the skills that employers look for.
- You will be taught by enthusiastic, committed and supportive professionals with an emphasis on practicals and fieldwork.
- Design a programme of study to suit your interests and career aspirations.
- Have a diverse range of optional modules to choose from - e.g. marine biology, climatology, rivers and coastal management.
In Year 1, you’ll study Environmental Science from two related perspectives: biological and geographical, which will be covered alongside biodiversity and conservation. You will also select two optional modules. Year 2 will see you study critical aspects of environmental science in more depth, in particular ecology and environmental management. There is also a wide range of optional modules to choose from, which allows you to tailor your programme e.g. around your career aspirations. You’ll have plenty of opportunity to do practical work in the field and laboratory, and an opportunity to enhance your employability skills with a work placement. Finally, in Year 3 you’ll choose a subject to research in depth through your dissertation. You’ll also have the choice of optional modules in topics such as animal behaviour, nature conservation, climatology, marine biology, plants and people, and much more.
