Course summary

Our academically challenging programme will introduce you to current and modern energy technologies for sustainable power generation. You’ll gain expertise and practical skills in areas of energy research including photovoltaics, fuel cells, energy storage and batteries, combustion, electrical power systems, and wind, wave and tidal energy. You’ll learn to design and assess the performance of fuel cells and photovoltaic systems, wind power and hybrid propulsion systems. As well as how thermo-fluid engineering processes can be used for the production of low-carbon energy. This course will particularly suit you if you have previously studied engineering, science or mathematics.

Modules

Compulsory modules include: Applications of Renewable Energy, Storage and Nuclear Energy; Introduction to Energy Technologies, Environment and Sustainability; Principles of Photovoltaics, Fuel Cells and Batteries; Advanced Photovoltatics, Fuel Cells and Batteries; Renewable Energy from Environmental Flows - Wind, Wave and Tide; Sustainable Energy Systems, Resources and Usage; MSc Research Project. You must also study two modules from: Offshore Engineering and Analysis; Waste Resource Management; Bioenergy; Energy Performance Assessment of Buildings; Advanced Electrical Systems; Data Analysis and Experimental Methods for Civil and Environmental Engineering, Offshore Engineering and Analysis. How to apply

International applicants

English language: Band C, IELTS 6.5 overall, with a minimum of 6.0 in all components.

This course has a subject classification which requires students whose nationality is outside the European Economic Area (EEA) or Switzerland to have an ATAS certificate, irrespective of country of residence at the point of application.
