Course summary
The BA Creative Arts and Arabic is a unique combined honours degree that offers students a rare opportunity to blend critical and theoretical studies of the arts and cultural industries with in-depth training in Modern Standard and Classical Arabic, as well as conversational Colloquial Arabic. This programme, the only one of its kind in the UK, offers a global perspective on the arts of Asia, Africa, and their diasporas, spanning Art History, Archaeology, Music, Curating, Film, and Media. Led by world-renowned experts and supported by strong industry connections, the programme emphasises professional skills tailored for careers in arts management, marketing, public relations, journalism, and the music industry. In the first year, students are introduced to the arts and cultural industries of Asia, Africa, and the Middle East. In the second and third years, they deepen their understanding of critical theory and research while customising their studies to specific regional or thematic interests. Optional modules allow students to broaden their expertise, offering opportunities to study additional languages, engage in practice-based courses, and develop skills in areas such as musical performance, podcasting, sound recording, and curating. Graduates of this degree leave with cultural expertise, linguistic fluency, and practical skills, well-prepared for dynamic careers in the cultural and creative sectors with a specialism in Arabic.
