The University Preparatory Year Extended Degree Programme in Make-up Artistry course has been designed to Introduce the student to new ways of creating and thinking within the art of Make-up Artistry. Modules
Examples of current modules- Year 1 - Preparing for HE (40 credits) This module supports the development of the key skills required for higher education study. The module content will include a focus on the importance of digital literacy to supporting study in higher education: together with the more traditional skills of analysis, academic writing, and oral presentation skills. This grounding in higher education study is designed to lay the foundations for success at undergraduate level, and students will be supported accordingly. Introduction to Make-Up Artistry (40 credits) This module aims to provide the opportunity for the students to explore experiment and then develop skills and knowledge within a range of make-up artistry disciplines; including character designing, drawing, illustration, photography, basic photographic manipulation, cosmetic function & form, cosmetic application & technique, basic specialist make-up effects, and hairstyling. Personal Project (40 credits) This module allows students to further develop an individual, specialised project within their chosen subject specialist area, (or combination of areas), thus preparing them for the more self-directed nature of study at degree level. It allows students to develop further creative thinking, project planning and management skills whilst articulating a clear subject specialist direction. It is anticipated that the combination of subject areas explored in an Introduction to Make-up Artistry will foster a lateral approach to personal project design, encouraging unusual and unique solutions.
Assessment method
A variety of assessment methods are used including: • Portfolio • Final module evaluation and outline of personal project intentions • Written personal project brief / research proposal • Completion of creative project / research and presentation to audience of staff and peers • E-portfolio of evidence

Entry requirements
Qualification requirements
The Foundation Year enables you to study a Foundation Degree even if you haven’t quite got the level 3 grades to start in year 1 or you have studied in an unrelated area. It is also ideal if you don’t have any qualifications but you have the ability to study to foundation degree level. You will apply for a 3 year full time foundation degree which includes study on the foundation year. If you successfully pass your foundation year you will gain automatic entry onto year 1 of the foundation degree. We strongly recommend that all applicants have GCSE English Language and Mathematics grades A*-C or level 9-4. Mature applicants (aged 21 or over) who are able to demonstrate relevant skills or knowledge gained in employment or vocational activity will be considered and may be invited to interview.
Additional entry requirements
Interview
Applicants may be invited to attend an interview where they will be asked to provide examples of written work, a portfolio of images demonstrating their skills within make-up / hair, or provide examples of designs work/illustrations. They will also hear more about the course structure, see the facilities and meet the staff. The whole process could take between 2-3 hours. There is availability for a remote interview for overseas/applicants who have to travel; links to e-portfolios and written work will be submitted electronically prior to the remote Interview taking place.
