Learn about the latest developments in midwifery and contribute to original research that improves the health and care of women, children, families and communities. In this highly valued master’s qualification, you will be given the opportunity to apply research and critical analytical skills to enhance maternity care delivery. If you are a qualified midwife looking to progress into a senior/specialist clinical role, or perhaps move across to a research and education position, or simply make a genuine impact on maternity care in your current role, then this MSc is the programme for you. Modules
The MSc is made up of: Core modules (30 credits): Introduction to Research Methods and Applied Data Analysis Discipline specific modules (45-60 credits): Midwifery Theory: Knowledge, Profession and Practice (online) (15 credits) Risk and Midwifery Practice (15 credits) Optimum Birth (15 credits) Public Health, Pregnancy and Parenthood (15 credits) Elective modules (30-45 credits) You may choose up to 45 credits of elective modules from a range of modules offered within the School of Health & Psychological Sciences. Assessment method
The programme is based in our Centre for Maternal and Child Health, and takes an interdisciplinary approach to research and providing rigorous evidence to inform policy and practice. You will learn through a dynamic mix of direct and interactive methods. You will be assessed on each module through a variety of methods depending on the subject. These include: coursework examinations reports seminar presentations skills schedules objective structured clinical examinations (OSCEs).
Entry requirements
To apply for this course, you should have: - A second-class honours degree or the equivalent from an international institution. - A lower qualification such as Diploma in Midwifery may be considered with appropriate prior experience. You would normally be expected to have been practicing as a qualified midwife for at least one year - At least one year's experience as a practising and qualified midwife. If you do not hold a degree, your application may still be considered on the basis of your professional experience. English requirements If your first language is not English, one of the following is also required: A first degree from a UK university or an overseas institution recognised by City as providing adequate evidence of proficiency in the English language. For example, from institutions in Australia, Canada or the USA. IELTS: 7.0. Pearson Test of English (PTE) Academic: 72. TOEFL 100 overall
