Course summary

This course is designed for learners who aim to enhance their knowledge of English language and literature while engaging with education themes, including teaching young learners, English testing and management. The course aims to prepare students to become effective teachers, managers or leaders in a variety of educational settings e.g. state and private higher education institutions, colleges and schools, as well as language academies, testing centres, consultancies or governmental agencies. You will have the chance to study a diverse range of modules on language/linguistics, literature, teaching English and education management.The course prepares students to be informed managers in a time of global complexity as well as digitally literate global citizens.Students have the opportunity to gain professional accreditation through the Cambridge Assessment’s TKT Teaching Young Learners*.

Modules

The course teaching and learning strategy reflects the four key underpinning values: Active Learning is student-centred, with students actively engaged in learning and learning activities.Applied Learning activities represent authentic, real-world tasks. The TKT* is embedded in the course.Social Students interact regularly with staff and peers, often working together in small groups.Inclusive Teaching and learning are designed to be inclusive and accessible to all. Teaching and learning methods across the course as a whole include lectures, seminars, workshops, and tutorials as well as study trips* devoted to experiential learning, online working and research, self-directed study and group/collaborative work. Inquiry-based learning is central to the delivery of the modules, comprising this course. Perhaps this is most obviously demonstrated in the Careers Development Project module where you have the opportunity to choose your own subjects for investigation and, using a wide-range of primary and secondary materials, offer their own analysis of the evidence.
