Psychology and Education Practice with Foundation Year at University of Roehampton - UCAS

Course summary

This course is offered as a degree with foundation year - a four-year programme which provides an additional foundation year at the beginning of the degree, that will give you academic and practical experience, as well as the skills you need to ensure you are equipped to successfully complete your chosen degree. Inspired by the fact that around 30% of our psychology graduates go on to work in education, Roehampton is proud to launch this new degree that combines both disciplines to create a uniquely career focused programme of study. BSc Psychology and Education Practice combines the core elements of our newly designed BSc Psychology with key modules from the School of Education's unique new programme, BA Education Practice. The course is seeking accreditation from the British Psychological Society (BPS) and therefore teaches all the areas of psychology that are required of the BPS, such as developmental, social and cognitive psychology. Alongside this, students will also explore inclusive and holistic approaches to teaching and learning, providing a solid grounding in their journey as education practitioners. In the final year the two disciplines merge as students embark on an education career pathway that focuses on neurodevelopmental disorders and educational psychology. In joining Psychology at Roehampton, you will have the opportunity to become a Mental Health England First-Aider, or train and develop skills in mental health first aid, further expanding your professional development. This course also has the option of a one year paid work placement, to boost your employability even further. Subject to gaining BPS accreditation, students graduating with a 2:2 or higher will gain Graduate Basis for Chartership (GBC) which will qualify them to apply for professional psychology postgraduate programmes as the first step towards a career as a chartered psychologist.
