Course summary
BA (Hons) Photography combines creative, technical and theoretical knowledge in a vibrant and dynamic course. It is designed to help you develop and sustain your creative career as a contemporary image maker. Throughout the course, you will learn to think about, engage with and produce creative photography. It will help you develop a wide range of skills, including the practical and technical knowledge needed to make engaging images today. It encourages and teaches you to think critically, solve problems and develop the skills that are essential for a career in photography or the wider creative industries. You will undertake a range of practical projects, both in our industry-standard photographic studios and on location, calling upon our wide range of specialist equipment. You will discover how to select, edit and present your work and how to work professionally with picture editors, art directors and curators as well as learning other key employability skills. The course will encourage you in an exploration of many photographic genres for fashion, portraiture, documentary, product, landscape, architecture, fine art and moving image. Having found your specialism, the course then helps you to hone your skills so that you can be fully prepared to enter the industry. Previous graduates have worked for clients including Vogue, Adidas, Nike, BMW, The Guardian, Virgin and Universal Music. Foundation Year The foundation year is designed to give you the opportunity to develop your academic and interpersonal skills while developing your subject knowledge further to support you to success on your academic path. By studying a foundation year, your first year will be spent learning a wide range of broad subject areas which then open up opportunities for you to specialise further in your next year – which would be the first year of a full degree programme.
