Course summary

The first year of the course introduces you to the fundamentals of filmmaking and screenwriting practice. It will help the development of your creative, critical and craft skills in preparation for progression to the 1st year of the BA (Hons) Screenwriting fast-track degree at Central Film School. The BA (Hons) Screenwriting degree has been designed to prepare graduates for employment by providing them with the skillsets required by employers in screen industries. The degree embraces the truth of the adage that “Writers write!” and therefore, with the help of our industry professional tutors, students are required to apply their learning to scripts throughout their time studying with us. This degree provides students with a broad programme that develops their creative voice and writing style while learning how to write step outlines, treatments and scripts for film, television and interactive media. Programme Overview This course is designed to teach students to understand the platforms, audiences, genres, and writing skills that a professional screenwriter needs to develop a successful career.

  • 1 year full-time foundation year followed by a 2-year intensive fast-track programme including summer terms
  • Small class sizes and specialist seminar groups
  • High proportion of scheduled contact hours provides new writers with substantial one-to-one development time
  • Taught by working industry professionals, including script development executives from the British Film Institute, the Script Factory, BBC and a range of production companies.
  • Professional actors will stage much of the students’ work.
  • Progression: Students who graduate from this programme may pursue a career as Script Editor or Script Readers for film, TV, games, online content and print.
