This exciting course provides individuals with the opportunity to develop valuable skills and to gain an understanding of the business practices employed within the tourism industry. Whether you aspire to work in the UK, abroad or both, this full-time programme aims to ensure that you receive the relevant training to start a successful career within the various divisions of this dynamic sector. With the intention of developing you as a fully informed practitioner, this HND course seeks to enhance your managerial abilities and refine your interpersonal skills. This programme is ideal for those who are working towards a career within tour operations, attraction management, or airline services. Through a combination of theoretical study and practical work experience, you will have access to a range of module topics in areas such as: • Global Sustainable Tourism • The Contemporary Travel and Tourism Industry • Global Tourism Destinations Designed To emphasise the importance of employability, this course also offers you the opportunity to apply your industry knowledge to existing travel-related companies. The programme includes course trips to relevant facilities and businesses within the travel and tourism industry, as well as a variety of talks from guest speakers appropriate to the subject area. Students will have the opportunity to gain the ILM Certificate in Leadership and Management, which is highly regarded by industry. Many of our students choose to enrol on final-year degree programmes at Loughborough College in related areas, such as our BA (Hons) Tourism Management (Top-Up) Degree, with the aim of attaining a full BA (Hons) Degree after 12 months of study. Modules

Year 1 Modules: The Contemporary Travel and Tourism Industry, Managing Customer Experience, Professional Identity and Practice, The Travel and Tourism Business Tool Kit, Leadership and Management for Service Industries, Tour Operations Management, Global Tourism Destinations and Entrepreneurship and Small Business Management. Year 2 Modules: Research Project, Tourism Consumer Behaviour and Insight, Strategic Destination Planning, Global Events, Global Sustainable Tourism Development, Organisational Behaviour and Pitching and Negotiation Skills.

Assessment method

The programme uses a variety of assessment techniques to ensure that you can demonstrate the range of learning outcomes. Subject knowledge and understanding is assessed through examinations, coursework essays, coursework reports, individual or group presentations, written evaluations, debates and posters will be used as other forms of assessment. These also assess a range of transferable skills, including confidence in academic written communication. Simulated problems and case studies are used to assess problem solving skills and creativity in design solutions – these may be assessed through unseen examinations or as a written essay/report.
