Our BA (Hons) Law and Business degree is designed with an emphasis on international, contemporary, and practical business and legal issues in order to ensure graduates are ready for the job market and prepares students for some of the key challenges in the modern business world. Students will: gain a broad insight into the world of business and law from academics and industry professionals develop commercial and legal acumen and management skills alongside the knowledge and abilities necessary to be a successful legal professional in the modern business world. strengthen and develop personal and professional skills. acquire the knowledge and abilities to become an effective business manager and the entrepreneurialism to develop your own business. study our Law & Business course that is designed with employability in mind – ensuring graduates will be equipped with knowledge and skills to meet current and future market needs. complete a 12-month industry placement within the UK that will significantly enhance a student’s CV and employment prospects.

Modules

YEAR 1 (LEVEL 4) • Public Law: Constitutional and Administrative Law (Core): This module provides students with an understanding of the key institutions, principles and theories underpinning constitutional arrangements in the United Kingdom and the devolved nations and how human rights are protected. • Introduction to Management and Business (Core): Explore the fundamentals of business, including organisational structure and the nature of the modern business practices. Contract Law (Core): Develop an understanding of substantive rules and principles of contract law in relation to legally binding obligations and how the law of contract may be applied. • European Law and Global Problems (Core): The aim of the module is to introduce students to the foundations of European and international ‘legal’ relations and how tensions between states are managed in international law. • Marketing Essentials (Core): Recognise the importance of marketing’s role in driving success and delivering results. Studying in Higher Education (Core): This module provides students with an underpinning knowledge of the academic requirements when studying in higher education. YEAR 2 (LEVEL 5) • Legal Skills, Ethics and Professional Standards (Core): Develop legal skills and abilities to understand and navigate the contextual, moral, ethical and professional backdrop of legal practice in England and Wales. • Criminal Law (Core): Understand the principles and analyse the substantive rules of criminal liability and how rules of evidence apply in areas of criminal law.. • Digital Business Strategy (Core): This module aims to equip students with the skills needed to build digital competitive advantage in a rapidly changing world. Tort (Core): The module aims to familiarise students with general principles of tort liability as reflected in the law governing negligence, battery/ intentional interference with the person and the law of nuisance. • Entrepreneurship and Innovation (Core): Discover how ideas are developed, how entrepreneurship operates and an understanding of Innovation and entrepreneurship theories within a business context. International Business and Trade (Core): Develop a critical and practical understanding of the concepts and principles of international business and trade and the ability to apply these concepts to the contemporary international business world. • YEAR 3 (INDUSTRY PLACEMENT) • Industry Placement (Core): The module aims to provide students with the opportunity to gain valuable experience in the workplace, specifically related to the student’s specialism, via first-hand experience such its duration should normally be in the region of 40 weeks dependent on working hours. YEAR 4 (LEVEL 6) • Property and Land Law (Core): Develop a critical understanding of the key concepts of English and Welsh land law related to: the ownership of family property, the regulation of leases and the law of mortgages; and the distinctions between legal and equitable rights, personal and proprietary interests and registered and unregistered land. • Strategic Management (Core): This module presents a systematic approach to the study of strategic management, building upon an array of ideas and theories ranging from industrial organization theory to institutional economics. •Managing People in an International Context (Option): This module provides comprehensive knowledge and understanding of managing people in an international context. Strategic Marketing (Option): Build on the marketing foundations studied previously and provides a staged approach to the nature of strategic marketing which contribute to the achievement of a competitive advantage. •The information listed in this section is an overview of the academic content of the programme that will take the form of either core or option modules.
