Course summary

The MSc in Sport and Exercise Science provides an exciting opportunity to develop your knowledge and understanding in this field of study. The course has been designed to attract a range of sport and exercise graduates, and includes a balance of taught content, professional practice, academic skills and independent study. During the course you will have the opportunity to tailor your study to your chosen career goal/sector interests. Two key elements of this course are centred around supporting performers/clients/athletes to achieve their potential, and engaging in the advancement of your knowledge, skills, and understanding of sport and exercise topics. The course culminates with the production of an advanced research project in an area of your choice. Our graduates go on to varied careers including sports management, teaching, coaching, consultancy, sports science or strength and conditioning roles. This full-time course requires attendance on one full day per week, as well as independent study and professional practice time.

Modules

Transition to Masters, Planning and Management of Sport and Exercise related injuries (Optional), Sports Coaching and PE (Optional). Advanced Research Methods. Practitioner Enquiry, Supporting Athlete Performance, Advanced Research and Dissemination.

Assessment method

You will learn through a variety of methods including lectures, seminars, practical sessions, workshops, guest speakers and visits, independent research and case studies. The course is delivered in a range of settings including classroom, lecture theatre, rehabilitation clinic, sports arena, and human performance laboratory. You will be given opportunities to present group work to your peers developing skills in public speaking and increasing self-confidence as well as leading practical sessions. You will be provided with a range of placement and development opportunities


Entry requirements

Minimum 2:2 or higher in the relevant Honours Degree.
