Course summary
This course is temporarily suspended for academic year 2024-25 Currently, the world is undergoing significant health challenges, and disadvantaged groups are being hit harder than others. Why is this the case? How can we identify and resolve ongoing disparities in health outcomes? How can we improve population health and public health overall? This course provides you with a strong grounding in the key theories, understandings and issues relating to Sociology and Health. You explore topics including:
- Sociological theories of health, health disparities, health systems, and public health issues
- Social divisions, inequality, the nature of work and commercial culture
- Culture, identity and subjectivity
- Public policy regarding health, the environment, crime and aging.
