Course summary

This two-year Foundation degree will cover a range of themes including wildlife biology, habitat management, evolution and taxonomy, practical field research, current industry techniques and technologies. All aspects have been tailored to provide successful students with the best skill-set for their chosen industry. Making use of the on campus facilities, University Centre Askham Bryan has access to its own licensed and BIAZA accredited wildlife park, Askham Bryan Wildlife and Conservation Park. With this resource on site, students have access to a fully working collection, accessing the resources can have the ability to get involved with the park during your study. Taking part in the conservation projects the wildlife park has underway supporting your research modules. In addition to the wildlife park on site, the York campus is located in an ideal spot for access to a range of Wildlife Trust, RSPB and local nature reserves to support you in your application of the skills developed in this degree.

Year 1 (Level 4) Core Modules include: • Academic Writing and Research • Diversity of Life • Conservation and Wildlife Management • Ecological Conservation Skills • Anthroecology Optional Modules, choose 1: • Wildlife Ethics, Law and Legislation • River and Ocean Systems Year 2 (Level 5) Core Modules include : • Independent Research Project • Professional Skills in Wildlife and Land Management • Management of Habitats and Protected Areas • Introduction to GIS • Introduction to Conservation Genetics Optional Modules, choose 1: • Business Enterprise • Conservation Project and Event Management

Assessment method

Assessments may include; Course work, TCA's, online assessment, presentations, Viva-voce and practical assessments.

Applicants should have achieved 48 UCAS points plus 5 GCSEs including English, Maths and Science at grade C/4 or above. Equivalent qualifications may be accepted in lieu of GCSEs.
