Course summary

Develop your professional skills and knowledge to a high level of competence. Graduates eligibility to apply for associate membership with the Faculty of Intensive Care Medicine (FICM) as an Advanced Critical Care Practitioner. The course is designed around the needs of experienced critical care practitioners looking to further develop practice and/or prepare for clinical practice roles at a senior level. It will enable you to strengthen your existing knowledge, skills and competencies while also preparing you for roles that require greater autonomy, responsibility and more complex clinical decision-making. This pathway is accredited by Health Education England's Centre for Advancing Practice. Completion of HEE accredited programmes/pathways is set to become one of the benchmark routes to recognition for Advanced Clinical Practitioners, and accreditation is also designed to ensure a consistent level of programme quality across England. This master’s course is for experienced registered practitioners currently working within a UK healthcare setting.

Modules

Compulsory Modules: History Taking and Physical Assessment Across the Lifespan Level 7, Diagnostic Assessment and Decision Making (Advanced Critical Care Practitioner), Transition to Advanced Critial Care Practice; MSc Disseration (18 month); Option Modules; Pharmacology and Prescribing in Clinical Practice; Applied Pharmacology for Clinical Practice, Research methods.

Assessment method

We'll assess you through a combination of the following methods; written and oral exams; practical assessments; case studies; presentations; final dissertation.


Entry requirements

UK 2.2 Hons degree or above or an equivalent standard in other qualifications approved by the University A current professional registration with a relevant UK professional/statutory body e.g. Nursing and Midwifery Council, Health Care Professions Council. A current or recent relevant job contract in a clinical or clinically related area. At least two years relevant post registration clinical experience. Additional criteria apply if you are seeking membership with the Faculty of Intensive Care Medicine. At least one satisfactory reference (on some occasions a second reference will be required). English language: band C, IELTS 6.5 overall with a minimum of 6.0 in all components
