Stage one During stage one, you’ll study the core practice areas of Business Law and Practice, Property Law and Practice, and Litigation (Civil and Criminal). The emphasis is on practical application, utilising specifically designed client portfolios and simulated transactions to understand how you would encounter these areas in practice. • Advocacy • Business Law and Practice • Drafting • Interviewing and Advising • Litigation • Practical Legal Research and Writing • Professional Conduct and Regulation (PCR) including Solicitor’s Accounts (SA) • Property Law and Practice • Will and Administration of Estates Stage two In stage two of the LPC, you will choose one of our two electives streams: General Practice or Commercial. You will study all three elective modules in the stream of your choice, which should enable you to align your modules to the practice areas of the types of firm you aspire to train with. General Practice modules: • Employment Law (15 credits) • Family Law (15 credits) • Medical Negligence & Personal Injury (15 credits) Commercial modules: • Advanced Commercial Litigation (15 credits) • Advanced Commercial Property (15 credits) • Commercial Law & Intellectual Property (15 credits) Master’s component For the Master’s component of the LLM Legal Practice Course, you will study two additional modules. Negotiation and Case Analysis This module will provide you with a practical understanding of the nature of case analysis and negotiation, different negotiation styles and strategies for negotiation. The module is assessed by a coursework case study assessment of up to 3,000 words. Law Review and Reform Our Law Review and Reform module requires you to carry out detailed practical research and identify an area of law in need of reform. Analyse and critique the existing law, propose one of more possible reforms to address the current weakness and then critically analyse the proposal in 2,500-3,000 words. BPP recommends Legal Technology Innovation and Design: developed in close collaboration with law firms, this optional online module will provide you with the new skills sought by recruiters. Completing the module will enable you to develop emerging tech skills that are becoming increasingly crucial in practice.

Assessment method

Our LLM Legal Practice Course (LPC) is assessed by a variety of methods. These include: • Written exams • Oral assessments • Written coursework Our assessments are ‘open book’ on the LLM Legal Practice Course. You are permitted to take hard copies of any materials into your exams, such as your course materials, any revision notes and statute books. The majority of legal knowledge required for passing the LLM Legal Practice Course comes from these permitted sources, as opposed to case law. You can focus your revision on when and how to apply law, rather than memorising it, which most accurately reflects what it is like in practice.
