Course summary

The programme is arranged in eight foci that use state of the art technology to address global challenges: Impacting on health and disease; Sustainably providing food and fuel; Environmental change; Ecology and Evolution; Infection and Immunity; Microbiology; Plant Biology; Cell and developmental Biology; Biochemistry and Biophysics; Molecular and Cellular Medicine; Bioinformatics and Mathematical Biology.

Assessment method

An MPhil thesis is expected to display a good general knowledge of the field of study; a comprehensive knowledge of some part or aspect of the field of study; and a recognisable original contribution to knowledge or understanding. The thesis is judged by two examiners and the student is required to attend an oral examination on the subject of the thesis and on related research. The oral examination is vital for the award of the degree.

This course has a subject classification which requires students whose nationality is outside the European Economic Area (EEA) or Switzerland to have an ATAS certificate, irrespective of country of residence at the point of application.
