Validated by Kingston University, this course is suitable for HND Business (and associated subjects) students wishing to top up to a full degree. Delivered through a combination of core and optional modules, this is an ideal route into junior management roles or as a gateway into post graduate education.

Modules

Students will study the following two Level 6 core modules: •Strategic Management (Core, 30 credits): The aim of this module is for learners to think critically about business strategy. Learners will design business strategies based upon tools and models which enable them to analyse the strategic business context. An individual capstone project will allow learners to research real world business sectors and develop the critical success factors for a new sector entrant. •Management, Leadership and Change (Core, 30 credits): Students will evaluate contemporary concepts and models of leadership, management and change. This module will prepare individuals to be in charge of a team of colleagues either in line management or as a project leader. Learners will develop business research skills as they prepare a research proposal and a research report. Optional modules: Two optional modules from: •Financial and Managerial Decision Making (Elective, 30 Credits): This module is designed to give non-specialist students a deeper understanding of the provision and use of accounting information in management decision-making. It provides students with appropriate conceptual models to enable them to apply the learning to understand and analyse real world business decisions. •Retailing Management (Elective, 30 Credits): Students will investigate the environment faced by retailers, and will compare the performance of two directly competing retailers. Learners will assess omni-channel retailing, and will consider how retailers assess the behaviour and expectations of consumers. Students will also consider the importance of human resource planning, information systems and data management, and financial control and planning. •Digital Marketing (Elective, 30 Credits): This module has been accredited by the Institute of Direct and Digital Marketing (IDM). Learners will critically reflect on the use of digital marketing techniques and their integrated use in real situations, and will also gain a practical understanding of data-driven marketing. Students will be able to plan, implement and monitor a marketing campaign, with a focus on digital. •Business Law (Elective, 30 Credits): Students will be introduced to the English Legal system, the court system of England and Wales and alternative methods of dispute resolution. Learners will also consider the rights of consumers and how legislation affects the running of a business. There is focus on employment law with coverage of wrongful dismissal, unfair dismissal and redundancy; the impact of equality law on the employment relationship is also explored.

Assessment method

The course provides you with opportunities to test your understanding of the subject informally before you complete the formal assessments that count towards your final mark. Assessment methods include written assignments and a range of coursework assessments such as assignment reports, online tests, presentations and written tests. The grades from formal assessments count towards your module mark; All assessments are spread across the year to make the workload manageable.

Qualified teacher status (QTS)

To work as a teacher at a state school in England or Wales, you will need to achieve qualified teacher status (QTS). This is offered on this course for the following level:
