Course summary
This MA by Research is designed to enable students to advance their knowledge in a particular field of conservation. Research areas include archaeological conservation, paint and pigment analysis, preventative conservation, material culture studies and analysis of historic materials. Members of staff in the conservation subject area aim to provide you with the academic support to conduct in-depth research into the topic that interests you. You will have the opportunity to benefit from the School’s research expertise through a supervisory team and have access to a range of analytical equipment and technical expertise. Strong links exist with the Colleges of Science and Arts and there is interdisciplinary research culture that can facilitate collaboration with colleagues across a wide range of topics.
Modules
Due to the nature of postgraduate research programmes, the vast majority of your time will be spent in independent study and research. You will have meetings with your academic supervisor, however the regularity of these will vary depending on your own individual requirements, subject area, staff availability and the stage of your programme.
Assessment method
With the help of dedicated skills sessions and under the guidance of an academic supervisor, you will be expected to write a dissertation of around 25,000 words.
Entry requirements
First or upper second class honours degree in a relevant subject. Students whose first language is not English will require English Language IELTS 6.5 with no less than 6.0 in each element, or equivalent
