Course summary
This course is aimed at students wanting to continue their education through applied learning and is designed for students who wish to pursue or advance their career in Applied Sciences and forensic science. The course gives students experience of the breadth and depth of the sector that will prepare them for further study or training in Applied Sciences related fields. You will develop knowledge and understanding of forensic science theories and practice and be able to apply these in a variety of contexts. The course introduces you to the world of the forensic scientist and crime scene investigator, exploring the methods of forensic analysis and the role of forensic science in society. You will study 8 units to accumulate 120 credits over the duration of the programme. Career Options include: On completion students may develop their career in this sector by entering or continuing existing employment. Students may consider roles such as: Analytical chemist Crime scene investigator Forensic scientist Scientific laboratory technician Toxicologist On successful completion you may progress to Level 5 and study the HND Applied Sciences, which is recognised by higher education providers as meeting admission requirements for many relevant engineering degree programmes in subject specialisms such as BSc (Hons) Forensic Science / Chemistry / Biology. At Level 4 you will study: Mandatory core units: Fundamentals of Laboratory Techniques Scientific Data Handling Approaches and Techniques Regulation and Quality in the Applied Sciences Specialist mandatory units: Cell Biology Fundamentals of Biochemistry Criminal Investigation Plus two additional units
Assessment method
The programme is assessed mainly using internally assessed centre-devised assignments. This will include a range of assessment methods including reports, case studies, practical assessments, project work, data analysis, research, investigation, problem-solving tasks and portfolios of evidence.
Qualified teacher status (QTS)
