Course summary

The Higher National Diploma Top-Up in Healthcare Practice builds on students’ learning on the Level 4 Higher National Certificate in Healthcare Practice. The course is a unit-based programme that provides the underpinning knowledge, understanding and skills for a successful career in the health and/or social care sector. A range of core and specialist modules are undertaken, and students will develop their time management and organisational skills. As part of this programme, students are required to apply knowledge through a voluntary healthcare work placement or their current employment in a healthcare setting.

Assessment method

A range of assessment methods are used including academic essays, reports, shorter workbook-based tasks and skills development tasks, including presentations. In addition, a portfolio is used to record your development and progress through workplace activity.

Qualification requirements

It is expected that all applicants will hold relevant Level 2 maths and English qualifications equivalent to GCSE grade C/4 or above. Mature students: The University Centre welcomes applications from mature students who have relevant experience in lieu of the minimum entry requirements. Mature students (over 21) without formal qualifications may be accepted subject to satisfactory literacy and numeracy tests, work experience (if applicable) and a strong personal statement. Recognition of Prior Learning: Applicants may meet entry requirements through the process of Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL), which awards academic credits through recognition of prior learning via work and other life experiences. Recognition of Prior Learning is either certificated (RPCL) through formal assessment, or Experiential (RPEL) via skills and knowledge developed through work and voluntary activities.
