Weymouth and Kingston Maurward College, brings together two Further and Higher Education colleges to make one strong, responsive and ambitious organisation with the vision, resources and expertise to best support the evolving and growing skills demands in the region and beyond. Located on the stunning Jurassic Coast and the beautiful Dorset countryside, our campuses offer a diverse range of courses, training and CPD that cater to a wide array of interests, career paths and business needs. Across our two campuses we offer full and part-time higher education courses, with Weymouth focussing on vocational courses such as art, media, performing arts, health and social care, sport and public services and Kingston Maurward specialising in land-based courses covering subjects such as agriculture, wildlife, ecology and conservation. The Foundation Degree in Public Services is delivered on our Weymouth Campus (in partnership with Plymouth University) is designed to open your eyes to the diverse range of careers available. These include uniformed services, such as emergency, defence, security, justice and probation through to non-uniformed roles with local and central government, as well as related voluntary and private-sector agencies. The course aims to equip you with the knowledge, understanding and skills to progress and develop your career in public services and related voluntary and private-sector organisations.
Modules
Year 1: Research and Study Skills; Health and Well-Being, International Relations; Media and Communications in Public Services; Ethics, Values, Diversity and Human Rights; Social Context of Public Services. Year 2: Criminology and Applied Forensic Psychology; Major Incidents and Counter Terrorism; Research Project; Teamwork and Leadership through Outdoor Activities; Managing the Public Finances; Work Based Learning. Work-based learning: You are required to complete 200 hours’ work experience within appropriate public services setting outside of classroom time.

International applicants
International applicants will be required to have an IELTS score of 6 achieved within the last two years to apply for this course. International students will be charged an additional £250 admin fee on top of the tuition fee.

Access to HE Diploma
Applications are welcomed from candidates with a subject-specific Level 3 course such as a National Subsidiary/Diploma/Extended Diploma, A Level, Access to Higher Education Course, or a work-based course, such as NVQ 3 or Advanced Apprenticeship with 80 UCAS points achieved. Applications from candidates without formal qualifications, but who have a minimum of two years’ relevant work experience and are able to demonstrate that they have developed the necessary skills to succeed on the course will also be considered. All applicants will normally require at least 5 GCSE passes at grade C or above including Maths and English (grade 4/5 new GCSE grading from 2017) or their Level 2 equivalents. All applicants will be required to attend an interview.
