Course summary
The Accounting and Finance and Economics course at Kent is designed to create options for students who are interested in the detail-oriented world of accountancy and finance, coupled with a broader understanding of how people and groups make decisions in the context of a broader economic climate. You will initially be introduced to the principles of financial accounting, financial data analysis and economics before delving more closely into areas of economics, such as microeconomics (how individual choices affect things like supply and demand) and macroeconomics (a broader look at large-scale or general economic factors, such as interest rates and national productivity) and a more detailed study of financial reporting. You take a Year in Industry following your second year of study, enabling you to apply your expertise in a work setting while earning a salary. Modules
Stage 1 Your first year is designed to provide you with a solid foundation in the understanding of accounting and finance and economics practices and their related functions. Stage 2 Your second year becomes more specialised, allowing you to develop your critical thinking of accounting and finance and economics with greater emphasis on the key concepts and theories to develop intellectual agility and provides an opportunity to apply theory to practice. Year in Industry: All students spend a year in industry in the UK or internationally, supported by a dedicated Employability and Placement teams. The programme is designed to ensure that students gain experience in the functional areas and industries of their choice. Unique to KBS, students can take a Self-Employed Placement year during which they develop their initial business idea into a feasible business plan. The ‘Selfie’ programme students are supported by an in-house entrepreneur who acts as their specialist mentor. Stage 3 Your final year allows you to develop your specialist knowledge with flexibility to choose modules covering topics such as taxation, auditing, advanced financial accounting, and advanced management accounting. You also have the opportunity to pick modules from our wider portfolio of business-related or economics-related topics. This allows you to tailor your degree to your future career and lifelong learning requirements.
