Course summary

This foundation degree will help you to develop the skills, understanding and evidence-based practice needed to deliver care in a safe and compassionate way as a nursing associate. The role of nursing associate is a new position in the nursing team in England, where you will work across all four fields of nursing with healthcare workers and registered nurses. You will gain experience supporting a variety of people of all ages across a range of healthcare settings. Typical duties of a nursing associate may include undertaking clinical tasks, supporting individuals and their families and carers, performing and recording clinical observations, discussing and sharing information with registered nurses on a patient’s condition, behaviour, activity and responses, ensuring the privacy, dignity and safety of individuals is maintained, and recognising issues related to safeguarding vulnerable children and adults.

Assessment method

Assessment in both theory and practice is continuous, assessed against Nursing and Midwifery Council competencies, where students are required to demonstrate evidence of their achievement. A range of assessments includes assignments, time-limited assessments, clinical reasoning and simulated practice exams. You will also be assessed in practice.
