Course summary

Postgraduate programmes in journalism at Kent offer you the opportunity to research and learn in an environment that combines excellence in the practice of convergent, multimedia journalism with intellectual leadership in the history, ethics and future of the news industry. Research programmes are best suited to students who have a clear and original idea of a topic that they would like to investigate in detail. There are two types of programme: the MA by Research entails producing a 40,000 word thesis; the PhD programmes demand a high level of research and analysis resulting in dissertations of 80,000 words.

English language entry requirements The University requires all non-native speakers of English to reach a minimum standard of proficiency in written and spoken English before beginning a postgraduate degree. Entry requirements

A minimum 2.1 or equivalent in a relevant subject; in certain circumstances the centre considers candidates who have not followed a conventional education path, e.g. working or former journalists who have acquired a minimum of 3 years' professional experience in the news industry; these cases are considered individually.
