Course summary

To prepare Allied Health Professionals, Nurses, Midwives and Pharmacists to practice as Advanced Clinical Practitioners as defined by Health Education England (2017). Our dedicated advanced clinical practice academic team are all clinical ACPs as well as academics and as such we are able to ensure clinical currency in the way our modules are delivered.

Assessment method

Summative assessments include:

  • Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) of communication, clinical examination and clinical decision making skills
  • Clinical Competency achievement, assessed by Clinical Assessor
  • Academic written assignments
  • Academic written dissertation
  • Written and online examinations
  • Oral presentation
- Oral examination


Entry requirements

Applicants must be employed in a service user facing clinical role. A signed commitment statement from the student's employer must in place prior to acceptance on the programme. This is confirmed at the time of application. The admission criteria for student entry to the Advanced Clinical Practice MSc programme will usually be: - a current registrant with one of the statutory regulators of health and care professions (NMC, GPhC, HCPC) - Normally a minimum of 2 years* post-registration experience - Successful completion of degree level academic modules All students are required to have a workplace mentor who is currently working within the same or similar clinical practice area. The work place clinical assessor will usually be a GMC registrant who has experience of teaching and assessing. Students must provide evidence of confirmation from their employer that a workplace mentor is available to support the student for the duration of the programme as part of the application process.
