Course summary

The BA (Hons) degree in Dance Performance at LMA is delivered by industry professionals and provides a solid grounding in all major styles and techniques to prepare you for a career as a professional dancer. All of this is underpinned by theory and academic study along with developing your own style and creative vision. If you want to dance all around the world, in music videos, theatre productions and large scale tours, then this course is the first step to make that happen! Assessment method

You will experience a wide range of assessment methods at LMA which are focused around your practical development as a well rounded Dance Performer. These include practical demonstrations of a broad range of dance styles, skills and techniques, both individually and as part of an ensemble. Practical exercises and briefs are also included which assess your creative ability to improvise and choreograph. In the creative production and performance modules you are given the opportunity to take part in live and staged productions where you are assessed on both the development of the production, and also your final performance. In your final year, Dance Performance students are assessed both individually via the “Showcase” modules which allows you to demonstrate your proficiency and creativity as a solo performer, and also as a group performer via the “Major Performance” module . Assessed journals and planning exercises are also used which enable you to reflect and analyse your skills and identify ways they can develop. In some modules, continuous tutor/student assessment is also employed in order to evaluate your journey through the module. In addition, in the modules where you investigate the performance industry and your role within it, you will experience a variety of assessment methods such as poster presentations, comparative reviews of different performances, and investigative essays and reports.

International applicants

This course is unable to accept international applicants who need a Tier 4 Student Visa to study in the UK as LMA does not hold a UKVI licence.

Qualification requirements

LMA are happy to accept a wide range of qualifications, including but not limited to: A Levels, BTEC Extended Diploma, OCR Cambridge Technical Extended Diploma, BTEC Subsidiary Diploma(s), Access to HE courses, Scottish Highers, IB Diploma Programme, Foundation Diploma in Art and Design, RSL Level 3 Diploma and T Levels. We also welcome students who have a combination of qualifications - e.g. 2 A Levels and 1 BTEC Subsidiary Diploma and an extended project. Our academic entry criteria from qualifications you are currently taking is 96 UCAS tariff points and your offer will be tailored to reflect this. We assess all applications individually. Additional fee information

You should anticipate the following additional costs associated with your course: Clothing and footwear Items to enable you to follow the expected dress code for your course. Initial outlay from new at the start of the course approximately £100 for clothing and £120 for shoes. All students on the Dance Performance course are required to follow an “all black, neutral clothing” dress code for all practical workshop and rehearsal sessions. Clothing should preferably be logo free. Items worn can include Leotard, Vest, Crop top, T-shirt, Leggings, Tights, Shorts, Convertible Dance Tights (flesh tone of your choosing). You are also required to have a range of footwear Items to enable you to fully participate in the different dance class activities, including suitable trainers for fitness classes , Black split sole jazz shoes; Tan New Yorkers; Black tap shoes ; Split sole ballet shoes (flesh tone of your choosing); if you are at intermediate or advanced level for ballet, Pointe shoes flesh tone of your choosing). Costs for Optional Trips to Shows and Performances - Approx £75.00 per year.
