Course summary
Prepare yourself for a career in business or in any organisation that values an awareness of economic issues. You’ll graduate as a confident, independent thinker, with a detailed knowledge of business and management, and the ability to adapt rapidly to change. BSc Business Management and Economics will give you in-depth knowledge of organisations and their environments, including their relationships to society. You will explore key theories and concepts in economics and their application in international business. You will gain a solid understanding of areas such as managing people, operations, logistics, marketing and business ethics. Additionally, you will learn how businesses can operate effectively in a multicultural environment. In readiness for your future career, you will learn an overview of business organisations in a global context and explore key aspects of business management such as finance, marketing and data analysis. You will have the opportunity to practise these skills through problem-based activities and scenarios and will have the opportunity to study abroad. You will finish the course confident in your personal values, with the knowledge and experience to solve business problems ethically, and an excellent understanding of the wider economy. Taught on our south-west London campus, on this degree you will have access to many opportunities for work experience through our Careers Team, and access to face-to-face and 24/7 online careers support, whether you choose to live on campus or commute to us. This course offers all students the option of a one-year paid work placement, to boost your employability even further. If you choose this route, you will take the placement following year two of your course, and then return to complete your degree. A placement year is the perfect opportunity to gain valuable work experience, to build on the career skills we will teach you on this degree. The connections you make on the placement will improve your career prospects further, and equip you with the skills you need to secure graduate-level employment. Key features:
- Provides the option of a one year work placement
- Taught on campus on the same two days per week, to fit around your work, family or other commitments
Modules
Throughout your three year degree there is a focus on supporting you to develop and track your own increasing ability to add value to organisations. This is achieved through our Business Readiness module where, working with your Personal Tutor, you will gather evidence of your knowledge, attributes and skills. This will demonstrate to prospective employers how you can play a key role in whichever organisations you work for. In your first year, you will learn to recognise your personal strengths and weaknesses through a process of self-assessment and reflection, and understand your role in a team. You will practice these skills in a variety of team problem-based activities and scenarios. You will also establish an overview of business organisations in a global context and be introduced to key areas of business such as finance, marketing and data analysis. Your second year will continue to develop your business readiness, and you will gain experience of management, from managing people across different cultures to supply chain and project management. You will also undertake two economics modules, Managerial Economics and International Economics, which will develop your economics knowledge and skills alongside your business management capabilities. In addition, you will have the opportunity to study abroad in the Spring semester. In your third year, you will plan, research and write a dissertation on your chosen area of economics. In addition, you will develop your economic understanding through modules such as Labour Economics, Economics of Money, Banking and Finance or Development Economics. You will also look at Business Ethics & Responsible Management as well as Applied Corporate Strategy, ensuring you to become a value-adding graduate.
