Course summary

This programme offers a ground-breaking approach to statistics and operational research, developed in conjunction with leading industrial partners. There are typically over ten fully funded places annually. Collaboration with our industrial partners, such as BT, IBM and AstraZeneca, ensures that we produce a generation of highly skilled researchers prepared for careers in academia or industry. Commencing with an MRes, which provides a robust grounding and the development of research skills, you will identify a topic and plan your PhD research. You will also develop a versatile skill set including: advanced problem solving, programming, and a broad range of presentation and dissemination skills. The remaining three years will be spent working on the PhD project guided by appropriate supervisory teams, whilst taking a range of training programmes and experiencing visits to world-leading universities.

Entry requirements

1st class Hons degree (UK or equivalent) in an undergraduate course with a substantial mathematical content. We may also consider non-standard applicants, please contact us for information. We may ask you to provide a recognised English language qualification, dependent upon your nationality and where you have studied previously. We normally require an IELTS (Academic) Test with an overall score of at least 6.5, and a minimum of 6.0 in each element of the test. We also consider other English language qualifications.
