The University of Stirling MBA (accredited by the Chartered Management Institute) is designed to transform capable managers into successful business and organisational leaders. Our MBA qualification is unique in the way it focuses on the practices, processes and outcomes of managing in a range of contexts, from large multinationals to small and medium sized enterprises. There is an emphasis on personal development, responsible business, strategy and how to effectively manage limited resources with maximum impact. This sought-after qualification will give you a thorough understanding of the functional areas of business and management including: accounting and finance marketing operations management human resource management By completing this course, you'll gain the confidence and resilience to respond to continually developing circumstances, the skills to build and lead a team, and the theoretical knowledge and its link to practice to successfully manage the challenges of the modern business environments. You’ll have the chance to go on regular site visits with senior executives and industry experts, as well as the opportunity to undertake a consultancy project with a business or organisation across the public, private and non-profit sectors. This allows you to integrate the knowledge and skills from your MBA to solve a real business challenge, subject to Scottish Government regulations as well as business circumstances. Our MBA is accredited by the Chartered Management Institute (CMI) – ensuring that you graduate with two qualifications, an MBA and a CMI Level 7 Diploma in Strategic Management and Leadership.

Modules

Semester 1 (core modules): Strategy and the international environment; accounting and finance; marketing management; economics for sustainable business; managing the human resource; personal and professional development (part 1). Semester 2 (2 core modules and 4 elective modules*): Strategy for sustainable success; research project methods; personal & professional development (part 2); operations management; managing of change*; corporate governance*; managing in emerging economies*; project management*; new venture creation*; leadership & responsible business*. Summer: students are required to carry out a significant piece of academic work on their own (MBA Project), utilising the skills and knowledge attained throughout the taught elements of the course.

Assessment method

Assessment is by a mixture of examination and coursework (both individual and group-based), including written assignments, class tests and presentations. Successful completion of the taught element of the course leads to the award of the Diploma or allows the student to continue for the award of the MBA by completing a 15000-word dissertation based on an original research question agreed by the student and supervisor.


Entry requirements

A minimum of a 2nd Class Honours degree (2.1 preferred) or equivalent. Applicants without these formal qualifications but with significant appropriate/relevant work/life experience are encouraged to apply. While at least 3 years’ work experience is normally required, candidates with less but who have an outstanding academic record may be considered for admission on a case-by-case basis. If English is not the applicant's 1st language, evidence of proficiency must be provided such as a minimum IELTS score of 6.0 (5.5 in all bands). If the applicant does not meet the required score it may be possible to register for 1 of our pre-sessional English courses. To register applicants must hold a conditional offer for a course and have an IELTS score 0.5 or 1.0 below the required standard.
